I agreed with everyone that the soap looked like meat in the picture. But I also thought it looked cool. Just didn’t post that part. Not cool, because it kind of looked like meat, but because of the swirlies.

Sigh. Your post here is a beautiful example of acknowledging your own feelings around a certain situation, and clearly explaining what about this situation was hurtful for you – it’s particularly poignant since you mention being vulnerable is hard for you, and this very post puts you in a position of vulnerability. And yet some people are jumping in to continue digging at exactly what you’ve explained is hurtful.

Seriously folks, maybe this is a time to stop justifying your actions and listen to what’s being said. Having feelings, and owning those feelings, isn’t a matter of who’s right or wrong.

Donna, I’m impressed you put this post out here, it can’t have been easy. And I’m sad that it’s been derailed this way.

Danielle: I never said that. What I did say was that I won’t post a picture of that particular soap. No matter what the response is, it’ll just make me feel worse either due to bullshit false platitudes or some jackass saying “Nope, I still see meat.” I can do without either one.

Considering that after writing all that, people are STILL trying to tell me I’m wrong for thinking what I do, I’ll avoid setting myself up for failure.

It’s got to be nice to know that your friends will rally to your support when they know you feel hurt.

But saying you’ll never post a picture again because people didn’t express the sentiments you expected is basically saying that unless you tell me what I want to hear I’m not going to engage with you.

Doesn’t seem fair to anyone, most of all yourself.
