So, I’ve got this puppy…

Well, not my puppy obviously, but since my parents are off to Hawaii… I have a puppy!

Jasper’s staying with me until next Sunday, so I have a week of whining, pooping, peeing, nibbling, jumping, biting, and barking. Luckily it’s packaged up into an extremely adorable little ball of fluff, so despite being a bit cranky this morning, it’s okay.

Nick has learned the first lesson of puppies: Do not put your face near the puppies face. The teaching point? A split lip. Puppy teeth are sharp.

Ima slap you upside the head!

Justice is a little out of sorts. She didn’t quite know what to make of this little blond furball at first, and was a little put out by him trying to jump all over her. Then she realized that having a little blond furball is FUN, and they spent most of the evening wrestling. And again this morning. Good, anything that tires them both out without me having to do anything is a plus in my books. Unfortunately, Justice also decided to take out her “what the fuck?” by peeing on our bed. Oy. It’s okay, sweetie — nobody’s replacing you, and the puppy isn’t allowed on the bed. You’re safe.

For reasons I totally can’t figure out, Justice’s pee smells like corn chips. I had crawled into bed, and was chatting with Nick, and accused him of smelling like corn chips. Then we felt the wet spot. Huh. Corn chip pee.

Other than that, she seems pretty okay with him. She’s super gentle with him, and so far I’ve only heard one “ow, too far!” yelp, and I’m not quite sure who made it — but both of them stopped playing immediately, so whoever was at fault at least knows the international dog call of “HOLD!”

GAME ON.

Time to play!

I need to figure out a schedule for Jasper. Obviously, he needs to go out for seventeen jillion more pees than Justice, and so far he’s good about asking to go out. I think she’s a little jealous of Jasper’s multiple walks, but I can’t take them both at the same time — Justice still has issues with strange dogs she meets on leash, and Jasper has absolutely no leash manners whatsoever (he’s been on a leash what, three times? Ever?) so they both require two hands. So unless Nick wants to come out with me, we’re making extra trips. And it’s been monsooning, so … yeah, extra trips it is. Hooray for exercising inside.

omgwtf!

Anyway, so far I’m failing a little on the schedule thing. Last night was fine, we went out a zillion times, and there were no accidents in the house. Jasper, despite being a mere 18.5lbs (compared to Justice’s 35lbs), has poops the same size as Justice’s, and thus far, much more plentiful. I don’t know how such a little guy poops so much. But giant poops aside, we managed to break our no-accidents streak by piddling on the floor in front of his crate the second I let him out this morning.

GOOD MORNING, DONNA! HERE, CLEAN UP PEE! IN THE DARK!

Well, good try anyway. At least he didn’t pee IN the crate. He’s only 3 months old, so overnight is a pretty long time. He’s been able to hold it overnight at home, but at Mom’s house he’s able to go pretty much straight from the crate to the grass. My place is a little less streamlined, there’s an apartment building to walk through first. So, next time, I try for a little earlier, and have shoes on & leash ready before I open the crate. We WILL get him to the grass!

So, thus far, it’s been an interesting experience… full of pee, teeth, wet pant legs, and fuzz. It’s going to be an interesting week!

You can skip to the end and leave a response. Pinging is currently not allowed.

I don’t know if you greet him with a cheery good morning or even talk to him but you are better off to not say anything, keep it strictly business activities then he is less likely to get all excited and let out a squirt….usually.

He looks like a Golden, is he? Awfully cute puppy. Justice is cute too. And I LOLd so loudly on the corn chip smelling dog pee! Hahaha.

He’s either a golden retriever, or the mythical Caterpillar Dog.

    Possibly both.
