Goodbye, 20s.
The benefit of being born right at the end of one decade means that … well, each decade represents an even x0-x0 of my life (more or less.) So, the 2000′s (did we ever come up with what we’re calling these? I still like Naughties…) were my 20s, even though I turned 30 a few months ago.
So as the year ends, and the decade ends, and we’re supposedly supposed to look back on this stuff, I look back on my 20s.
Yup. There they were.
I was going to do a Kimli-style year by year, but some of those years were pretty fucking awful, and I don’t really want to relive them vicariously through my blog archives. Eee.
So, highlights:
- Left boyfriend, moved back to Vancouver away from Evil, Evil Victoria. Hooray!
- Mom left her evil ex husband. Got knocked up by her wonderful new partner. Laughed uproariously.
- Baby sister born!
- My beloved Nana died
- Mom & wonderful new partner got married
- Learned to ride a motorcycle
- Suffered horrible depression, had a couple of suicide attempts, was given ambivalence pills (anyone who calls ‘em happy pills can screw off. They didn’t make me happy, they just made me not care.)
- Went back to school. A lot. For nothing in particular.
- Shaved my head. What? It’s something you gotta at least TRY!
- Learned how to cope better, got off ambivalence pills.
- Went to Hawaii a couple of times, once just for a weekend to surprise my mother for her 50th birthday. Surprise!
- Adopted most wonderful dog in the world. No, I’m lying, she’s a total asshole half the time, but she’s the most wonderful dog in the world TO ME.
- Spent a month in Zimbabwe. Best . Thing. Ever.
- Gained mild giraffe obsession.
- Went to Paramedic School.
- Met the most wonderful man in the world. No, I’m lying, he’s a total asshole half the time, but he’s the most wonderful man in the world TO ME.
- Moved in with Most Wonderful Man.
- Realized that due to Most Wonderful Man (and the ridiculous way paramedicine works in this province), paramedic school wasn’t for me. Flailed a bit while I tried to reconcile Strong Independent Woman with Can’t Leave City Because Of Some Boy.
- Settled on Nursing. Discovered love for blood & guts and how the body works. More school!
- Got slightly addicted to making things.
For the next decade? Plans include:
- Continuing love for Most Wonderful Dog, asshole that she may be.
- Continuing love for Most Wonderful Man, asshole that he may be.
- Continuing love for Nursing. I will have a degree one of these days!
- And maybe… I might get married and move to the suburbs and have a bunch of kids and a goat and a minivan. Or something like that. We’ll see.
Whatever it is… I think it’s gonna be fun. Happy New Years!
Maybe you can find a goat with an abnormally long neck and that can satisfy your strange giraffe obsession?
I would love to link this to your formerly rabidly “child-free” ranting self on IRC.

I maintain that I never said never… it was always just “well, I can’t SEE it happening.” Now? Well, maybe I can… :)
