When an unstoppable force hits an immovable object

Along Powell St, between Wall & Victoria, there’s a period around 6:30-7pm at this time of year where the sun hangs so low you can barely see what’s in front of you. I’ve run the yellow light at Victoria & Powell a few times because … you just can’t see a damn thing.

After 6pm, there are always cars parked in the curb lane. The Princeton Pub is right there, as well as a cold beer & wine store, so … it’s a popular spot for the derelicts and alcoholics of the neighbourhood. (I kid, I love our derelicts & alcoholics. I should point out, I live around the corner from this place. They catcall me when I walk by, and it amuses me.)

Anyway, so what happens when you’re NOT familiar with the area, the blind spot catches you by surprise, and you weren’t looking far enough ahead to see that there was a sole jeep parked in front of the Princeton? Well, I got to watch a little red sunfire slam into the back of said jeep so hard that it pushed it three car lengths forward, and made the front of the little red sunfire look … well, littler. And yet, taller. Compact car, now with more compact!

Oops.

I ran over because hey, I like to help! Also, the drunks & derelicts probably shouldn’t be offering medical help, and … well, since one of them probably OWNED said jeep (found out it actually belonged to the super-hot tattooed bartender, oops) they weren’t likely to be sympathetic. Also, while it’s pretty obvious who was at fault (sorry, young guy in red sunfire), I did witness it, so… I dunno, could be helpful?

Nothing too bad, although both people in the car (a young man & woman) are going to be in a world of aches tomorrow. Luckily, both were wearing their seatbelts… and some seatbelt related bruises were already visible by the time I left. The sexy bartender had called 911 (she couldn’t see if there was any damage, and decided to err on the side of caution) so the paramedics (and two firetrucks — hello cavalry!) showed up pretty fast and basically said the same thing to them I already had. (ie, take some ibuprofen, and see a doctor if the pain gets bad, or if there’s a lot of neck pain.) Go me.

Anyhoo, that was my excitement of the day. I was a little disturbed by watching the accident — a ’95 Sunfire is virtually identical to a ’97 Cavalier — aka, what I drive. On the upside, it crumpled nicely, so good to know that if I WERE to drive very hard into a parked car, I’d be okay.

In other news: I bought a hand blender and can now make soap, as soon as I get the ingredients together. Hello, soap!
