Last Minute Ambition

Why do I get these ideas when I only have a week to implement them?

So, next Tuesday, Nick & I leave for Clinton for a week. For those who don’t recall, this is a rather large SCA event/war in Clinton, BC. I showed up for a couple of days last year, spawning such pictures as these.

It was fun, and so this year, I’ll be going up for a week, instead of two nights. Which means the last few months have been spent on and off sewing, planning, purchasing, etc.

It was suggested to me a month ago that I should bring up some candles and sell them. “Oh no” I thought. “I couldn’t possibly, I don’t have time.”

So explain to me why 4 days ago I decided that I COULD, and while I’m at it, let’s also make soap! And not just my regular melt & pour, but why not throw in some felted soaps while we’re at it! It’s not like each felted soap takes me 30-45 minutes to felt or anything. OH RIGHT IT DOES.

My hands are wrinkly from the wet. My thumb is burned from where I managed to pour a good deal of wax on it. My kitchen smells like a beehive. (Actually, this part is awesome.) There’s soap in my fridge and candles in my freezer, and my back is aching from leaning over the pot. I also have two very large chunks of beeswax that I can’t fit in the pot, and Nick’s not home to break it into smaller chunks for me. (I swear, this stuff is like granite when it’s solid…)

I still need to fix the sleeves on one dress, hem another, and fix the sleeves AND hem a third… I can’t find my belt anywhere… I’ve still got it in my head that I’m going to make YET ANOTHER dress before I go, although I might wimp out and make an apron overdress instead. I’ve got a vest I picked up at Value Village yesterday that I want to add grommets to and make a lace up bodice… (see again: last minute ambition.)

WHY DO I DO THIS?

Oh yes, because I’m an idiot.

On the upside: The candle molds Nick got me for Christmas are gorgeous. My honey/beeswax soap is fantastic. The goat milk soap is pretty good, and the felted goat milk soap is neat. I have a great deal of stuff in my kitchen that I can point to and say, “Hey, I made that.”

I love it. Hey, I made that!

So, will the campfire ban that starts tomorrow at noon affect events at the “Clinton War”?

  3. Donna says:

Yup. But whatever, propane fires are still fine.

I remember my back aching from leaning over the pot, but I think that had something to do with too much tequila.

Have fun and take lots of pictures to show me! ;-)

Part of me really would love to go again but then I remember that newborns would do VERY BADLY at camping events!

2-3 months might be trickier, but 4-8 is the *perfect* time to camp with babies. :D Tell him to just … pretend he’s a little older? :)

Well, he looks the part. Giant babies are GIANT!
