Hiking Dog

So, Justice isn’t exactly an adventure dog. She’d like to be, but strange noises/smells/movements make her nervous and anxious.

But she’s getting better. On Sunday, Nick & I decided to go on an adventure, and headed up to Lynn Canyon, where I discovered once again why “two-parent” families have an advantage: When one parent starts to lose their shit because the Child is having their own little tantrumy snit, the other parent gets to step in and take over and calm everybody down. Or at least, that’s how it works in OUR family, if you replace “Child” with “prey-driven asshole dog who spotted a squirrel and tried to pull me over in an effort to catch it”. Handed off the leash to Nick who took us both off somewhere quiet, away from squirrels & other people and got us both to sit down and chill for a bit, have some water, and show off some tricks (er, the tricks were just from Justice. I don’t know too many tricks yet.)

Have I mentioned how good he is to me? And Justice?

The rest of our walk was awesome. Justice even heeled when asked, and didn’t try to kill anyone. Or any squirrels. Good dog.

On our way home, we stopped at the dog park, and I continue to not understand people who take their dogs to dog parks, but won’t let their dogs interact with other dogs. Isn’t that, uh, the POINT of a dog park?

We have agility tonight. Wish us luck.
