This has been a clusterfuck of a day. First, sick dog. Nobody likes a sick dog. She’s acting pretty normal, if a bit subdued, but seriously, the volume and lack of viscosity of what is coming out of her is … not good. On the upside, I’m saving a lot of poo bags: It’s hard [...]

Things that are not good.
So last night was my sisters year-end dance recital. That’s not the “not good” part, that was pretty fun. I like watching Carol Ann getting better as a dancer (she’s particularly good at the tarty poses) although I’ve got to wonder exactly when the 80s exploded all over the junior dance scene. MC Hammer? Really? [...]
On Aging.
“I’m 30 this year. So supposedly it’s all downhill from here? Fuck that noise. My tits might sag, my skin might start looking suspiciously armadilloish, and that little angry-line on my forehead might start becoming an all-the-time-line… but I’m getting AWESOMER, by golly!”

We ducked out of our agility class early last night. ALL of the dogs were being wiggy (the weather was bizarre, looked like a storm was incoming), and Justice’s wiggy is wiggy-er than most, so … yeah. Not a good space. She wasn’t calming down at all, wasn’t listening to me, and was right on [...]
Hiking Dog
So, Justice isn’t exactly an adventure dog. She’d like to be, but strange noises/smells/movements make her nervous and anxious. But she’s getting better. On Sunday, Nick & I decided to go on an adventure, and headed up to Lynn Canyon, where I discovered once again why “two-parent” families have an advantage: When one parent starts [...]
Baby likes to Jump Jump Jump all the time
So in agility, we’ve got a “five foot leash rule”. This was the only reason that I decided to sign up — I have a leash-reactive dog who’s making EXCELLENT improvements, but still gets freaked out (and snappy) when dogs run toward her. A few of my classmates don’t seem to get that the 5 [...]
Here’s hoping it sticks
I occasionally find websites I really like, only to forget that they exist and therefore never get anything out of the site. I’m hoping this is not the case for Goodreads. I’ve already found one book that I ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO READ AS SOON AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE and I’m hoping it’ll be a reasonable resource [...]
Overheard in the Office
Did I ever mention how nice it is NOT to be the weird one in the office? Dave: Nick and I have a special bond Dave: I can tell by the way he avoids my extended eye contact whenever I see him Dave: And how he shuffles slightly away when I sit really close Donna: [...]
omg, birds!
Justice is not only doing agility for the next few weeks, we’re also doing a basic group training class, specific to leash handling & basic obedience. She knows most of the things we’re working on already, but has “distraction” issues, which is what group classes are good for. So, Saturday morning found us in Kitsilano, [...]
No More Mr. Nice Guy. Thank god.
I’ve ranted about this before, but I am a huge opponent of the “Nice Guy” syndrome. You know the type — whiny, passive aggressive assholes who don’t understand why women ignore them in favor of bad boy jerks who treat them badly. I’m kind of bad with being eloquent on topics that enrage me, so [...]
