About 3k or so… but I’m not sure if that means anything or not, since I’ve got multiple characters I’m trying to level. (Also, Sechet doesn’t have her epic flyer yet. Damnit. Lokothula, the 71 Shaman, does. Must hit 77 so it becomes USEFUL.)
I ask because I don’t have epic flying on my (only) mage. I’m going to buy Cold Weather Flying at 77 (of course) but I want to get a handle on how much extra gold I’m going to have to grind when I hit 80.
Given that I’m only going to be playing for three weeks or so, I’m seriously considering buying some gold. Heh.
(honestly? I’m so, so against buying gold. gold farmers are evil.)
I started with about 2k or so before the expansion hit, but I’m not terribly thrifty. I also wear plate, so repair bills hit me a lot harder than cloth. (30g repair bills aren’t unheard of on a bad night.) Conveniently, you can get cold weather flying without having epic flying.
I also don’t sell any of my greens — I send them over to Nick to disenchant, and the market’s been weird enough that I’ve been avoiding selling most stuff on the AH recently. My bank alt usually makes me a pretty hefty profit, but I haven’t been bothering lately.
I don’t really mind too much. I’ve got crusader aura, so at least I go a little faster than a standard non-epic flyer… and while I’m saving up for it, I’m not going crazy grinding for cash.
out of curiousity, how would a solo player go about getting more gold, if they loathed group playing (and more to the point, groups would loathe playing with me. last night, I was doing one of those stupid escort quests when we got mobbed by a bunch of meanies. All totally under control until I panicked, hit the wrong combo of buttons, and managed to aggro a passing normally-neutral animal that joined in the fray until my escortee was dead).
At lvl 40? Harder. 30g SHOULD sound obscene to you at lvl 40. At lvl 80… well, theoretically, I can get 30g in a few quests. It’s still fairly high, but an average green quest reward (ie, soulbound, so I can’t send it to Nick to disenchant) will sell anywhere from 3g-15g (for two handed weapons on the high end. Oddly enough, druid staves are ridiculously expensive. Awesome.) Since I never keep green quest rewards, those are basically just free money for me on top of whatever the quest gave me, since I immediately vendor them.
At lvl 40… well, one thing you can do right now is sell lower level trade items — leather, cloth, ore, etc. Just about anything with a white name will sell pretty well right now.
A *lot* of people are doing new professions, and since nobody wants to go back to the lvl 40 areas to grind mageweave, they’ll buy it. And since lvl 80 gold goes much further than lvl 40 gold, you can mark the prices up to the point where no lvl 40 would consider buying them (unless they had a rich benefactor… ie, a high level alt, or say a former roommate with a few high level characters).
Send me a tell when you’re online next, and I’ll toss some gold your way. :) Honestly, getting gold at lower levels sucks. It’s not til you max out your levels that you can really concentrate on it.
I acknowledge the problems caused by gold farmers. Check this story out. But when I realized that the motorcycle that I greatly desire will cost me, at the very minimum, 12900g to get, I decided that the evil of having someone in China work in an office in a city (as opposed to in a horrific factory or such) outweighed my desire to acede to Blizzard’s game design. I simply don’t have the time to grind my way to the spiff content.
I’ll see how much I have when I hit 80 and go from there. Besides, it’s not going to get me too much ahead of the curve. I’ll just be able to move around faster.
Game design, bah. That’s not why I’m against gold farming. It’s the server economy, the constant stream of gold farmer spam, and a bit of self righteous “well, how is THAT fair if I have to work for it and other people don’t?”
Mostly the gold farmer spam. I hate those bastards. Buying from them just encourages them! It’s like buying the “Lovers package at discount price!” from “Discount price store” in my email…. :(
The more they succeed at making sales, the more I have to put up with that shit in my inbox, in my private messages, in ad banners, etc… bleah! Eeeevil.
Ah. I understand your position. The only spam I see is in chat and that’s only when I’m in a city. Well, I got one spam in-game mail. I use AdBlock Plus so I don’t see banner ads. It’s not as big of an issue for me. Besides, I would use Google to find the farmer, not in-game ads.
I get that there is some unfairness to it, but since I don’t spend all my time grinding, I’m *never* going to be better than those who do have time to play a few times a week after they hit the cap.
I don’t grind either — it took me about 8 months to save up enough for Loko to get her epic flyer. (Granted, I was spending money on other things as well.)
You think the gold sellers you find in google are different from the ones sending spam? Huh. Are there unicorns where you come from, too? ;)
Well, I don’t even have the time to grind up to 5000g, much less the 12900g for the motorcycle. That’s why I’m considering it.
They may be the same groups, but I don’t give the chat spammers any mindshare, so I don’t know or care.
Besides, I’m not even 80 and I play a pretty frugal game. We’ll see how it goes. Sadly four friends of mine don’t play anymore. I’m upset (not really) that they didn’t send me money before they left. ;-)
Congrats. Geek.
Gratz.
Woo! Congrats!
Out of curiosity, how much gold did you end up with?
About 3k or so… but I’m not sure if that means anything or not, since I’ve got multiple characters I’m trying to level. (Also, Sechet doesn’t have her epic flyer yet. Damnit. Lokothula, the 71 Shaman, does. Must hit 77 so it becomes USEFUL.)

IF YOU BUY GOLD THE TERRORISTS WIN! :D

30g repair bills from a single night? ye cats!
