Warning: If you play Warcraft, and haven’t done the Overlord Drakuru quest series in Zul’Drak, and care about spoilers… stop here. If you don’t play Warcraft… this will be boring. So for the two people still reading…
Anyway, so the other day I did both the Overlord Drakuru series of quests (making me the Guru of Drakuru — hah, awesome) which is another Seriously Awesome questline, possibly even better than Wrathgate.
The general premise is that you’ve been sent undercover to do some quests for Drakuru, and at the same time undermining him by doing other quests for the Knights of the Ebon Hold — you have to do them concurrently, as one of the Ebon Hold quest objectives is the completion of “Drakuru’s task”. I really, really like the idea of other quests being a quest objective in their own. Zul’Drak has a few other quests like this, and they’re pretty skookum.
At the end of it, you’ve gained Drakuru’s trust (while disguised as a ghoul — I love being a ghoul) but of course, you turn on him and use his own pets to try to kill him. I’m treacherous like that. Of course, you don’t quite make it — at the last moment, Arthas shows up. WooHOO! I am SO impressed with Blizzard and how they’ve made everything so much more personal. This is the fourth or fifth time I’ve come across Arthas, and every time it just makes me do a happy dance of joy. Also, it makes me comment that he looks like a pot bellied stove. Well, he does.
He kills Drakuru for failing him, but spares my life because I amused him with my silly antics. You know, like betraying one of his best lieutenants. Ha ha ha, oh Sechet, you goofy blood elf! What a joker. Anyway, so off he goes into the night.
The only downside is that … well, I’ve MET Arthas before. Earlier that day, I’d run one of my favorite new instances, Culling of Stratholme. This is in the Caverns of Time, which means I’ve gone back in time about … what, 5 years or so, to around the time Arthas went bonkeroonies, turning his back on his mentors & friends, and slaughtering an entire city of innocent citizens. Our job, of course, is to help him. Which I did, with glee.
(Sechet is NOT a psychopath. Psychopath’s murder and kill and maim for no reason. Sechet does it for gold!)
And sure, Arthas has been through an awful lot in the subsequent years — what with killing his father, becoming the Lich King, etc etc. But still. That was a turning point in his life, you’d think he’d remember the names of the soldiers who helped him… Arthas? Buddy? Hello? I thought we were close…
Oh well. Even if Arthas doesn’t remember me, I’ve always got my BFF’s — Blacktusk (Nick’s death knight), Thrall, Saurfang & Sylvannas:

I can’t wait to get through some of the uber-spiff quests in Northrend. I just hit 74 tonight. (Woo! Portal: Dalaran!) There’s a chain of Alliance quests where you get to raid Undercity with the King of Stormwind.
Also, considering how many Alliance and Horde people have helped out Arthas on that whole Stratholme thing, I’d imagine they all blur together.
I love the name of Nick’s guild. Are you a member as well?
hehe, that picture is taken at the end of the Horde side of the post-Wrathgate raid on Undercity — the Alliance version is to go with King Varian to take out Putress & then attack our forces — the Horde version is to take out Varimathras and defend against Varian & the alliance until Jaina swoops you away. Then Thrall gets very sad, sits on the stairs and mopes a bit… so we joined him.
And yeah, that’s my guild, it’s run by one of my coworkers.
I can’t wait for the quests. I’m going to have to look up how to start them.
Yay for spiff guilds. ;-)
