Ancestry…

…does anyone else think it’s crazy that they can track this dog back to 1778, but I only barely know the name of my great grandparents? And there are a LOT more generations between that dog and the 1700s and my ancestors…

(Note to self: DO NOT read pet rescue websites. Ever, ever, ever. Justice is enough trouble on her own without a partner in crime.)

Oh god I know what you mean. Repeat the mantra: one is enough. one is enough. one is enough.

We should loan each other our dogs (at different times, of course, so we have two at a time) just to remind ourselves WHY we only want one… egads. twice the poop!

Oh yeah, twice the poop. nevermind, I’m cured.

That’s what I’m telling myself about the baby :)

Well, dog breeders have very good controls on their breeding stock and a motive to keep records and such. People don’t have such requirements. ;-)

But for TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY YEARS! Those are better records than just about any organization I’ve ever heard of. :D

  6. J1 says:

Well, that’s only because you (and I) live in countries that are a measly two centuries old. You can’t swing a dead cat in Europe without hitting a paving stone that is older than that. ;-)

  7. Donna says:

True enough. I can only track him back in the US to the 30s or so, and it goes back to the UK (and, oddly, Australia) before that.

Coming from a 2 doggy mommy, stick with one. Until at minimum you have a fenced yard and a thick back door. Also coming from experience disable the door bell at the back door. Dogs are smarter than we think.

You could probably find your family tree heading back that far, it’s just that it’s a bugger to research.
