Systematically nutritious

So I’ve tried a few more items from the free nutrisystem stuff, and eventually I might stop making puns on the nutrisystem name. But probably not.

I’m actually pretty impressed by it.

The portion sizes are REALLY tiny. Like, really really. Really. Let’s put it this way: I eat like a bird. I’ve been known occasionally to forget to eat for an entire day. In times of stress, I pretty much stop eating completely (not that this is a time of stress, but it’s to point out my lack of interest in food — I lost ten lbs in a few weeks once because I was Horribly, Horribly Depressed.) Granted, they’re intended to be supplemented with some extra fresh fruits & veggies, which I don’t do, but I’m also not eating their food exclusively. Yesterday, for example, I had a very delicious lunch at Steamworks with that boy I adore so much. And some mouldy yogurt. Ugh. Today, I had … some random food I bought at safeway and keep at work for lunch.

So, fine. I won’t add all the appropriate additional stuff I’m supposed to, but I also eat what I feel like most of the time. I’m not doing this for weight loss, I’m doing it because it’s cheap & easy. Just like me!

Right, anyway.

The food! It’s surprisingly decent. The dinners are actually pretty tasty. The microwaveable chocolate cake was decent for instant chocolate cake. The “scrambled eggs” (read: powdered stuff that you add water to then microwave) are not, but again, food isn’t really my thing, so what the hey, hey? It’s cheap, it’s easy… it took less than a minute to make. Score.

Mostly, I’m just eating this stuff when I’m at home as an alternative to heading out to McDonalds or Subway, the two fast food places I frequent far, FAR too often due to their home proximity. And I’m trying to avoid stopping at one of the many absolutely wonderful little restaurants on my way home from work (let’s put it this way: I work at one end of commercial drive. I live at the other. You do the math as to how many fantastic places I pass on my commute every day.) due to how fast my bank account keeps getting drained every month. We’ll see if the local McDonalds manages to survive without me. (Well, they still have Nick, they’ll be okay.)

And, I brought some of the snack foods to work and gave them to a coworker… so Nick won’t have to put up with my sour cream & onion breath anymore. Alas.

Update: Holy crap, the oatmeal raisin cookies are DELICIOUS. I don’t know what they do to them to make them so soft and wonderful even after having been in the sealed package for so long, but I don’t care. Gimme more of that!

You can skip to the end and leave a response. Pinging is currently not allowed.

I found a mildly healthy alternative to junky snack foods to be Olympic Trail Mix, there’s that Safeway near IT that you can probably get them from. Nuts, Raisins, M&M’s. Mildly healthy snacks :)

Sadly, I don’t really like trail mix. I’m into sweet, not salty or savory…

I’d end up picking out all the raisins & m&ms and leaving the good stuff behind. :)

I do tend to eat a lot of crackers, though. :)

For a while as an alternative to chips I was eating Water Crackers.
