All those little signs on lawns must mean something

So we have an upcoming election. And I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords…

Oh wait, no, that’s the US election.

Anyway. I’m not going to go into the ins & outs of the various politicians and instead will focus on a very superficial point that makes me happy: The person I’m voting for has a chance of winning. Last time around, I lived in Vancouver Centre and voted for Svend (SVEND!) Sure, he’s a bipolar thief… but I can forgive a lot for Svend. Alas, Vancouver Centre disagreed, and Hedy Fry kept her seat. Well, I can think of worse things, although I’m not a huge fan of hers (to put it lightly).

Previously to that, I think I voted in Vancouver South since that’s where I happened to be living for 3 months… they went Liberal as well. (Although wasn’t TOO upset about that, as it went to Ujjal Dosanjh, the former NDP premier of BC. And mostly because I didn’t really live there for long, it just happened to be during an election.)

Before that, I lived in Cloverdale where the politics are slightly to the right of Atilla the Hun and there’s no way I’m ever going to be happy with anyone elected there. Bah.

This time around, I’m in Vancouver East. Libby Davies has been the MP since before I could vote and doesn’t look to be going anywhere fast. Heck, she’s (one of) the deputy leader(s) of the NDP. I like Libby Davies. I think she does good work, and I’m a heavy NDP supporter from a long line of heavy NDP supporters.

So, I’m happy.

I’ll be happier if Harper is removed, too.

Vote!

The scary “M” word is starting to get trotted out. My riding has gone Liberal for the last 15 years, so I’m not too concerned. I’ll probably vote Green since I know and like the candidate. But I’m not happy that the ‘Not Harper’ vote is being split 3 ways.

I think of the shit he’s pulled with a minority, I hate to think of what’ll happen if he gets 5 years with a majority. All in the name of the economy of course…
