You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry

I’m pissed off at my bank (that’d be the Royal Bank, for those playing at home). I still have a hold on my chequing account, despite having cleared up everything on my end (read: deposited the requisite amount that the hold is for, which is not a small sum — thank you, Revenue Canada, for warning me BEFORE freezing my bank account… when this is all due to their fuckup to start with) a week ago, and their suggestion? Go in and talk to my branch in person.

My branch is in Victoria. How about… no?

So I called my branch. They couldn’t do anything anyway, other than tell me that the hold has evidently been placed for over 250 days. TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY DAYS? What the hell kind of hold do you put on an account for 250 days? Gee, sure glad I didn’t take a ferry trip to find that out. Anyway, they gave me another phone number to call. Nobody answered, but the voicemail message described my situation and suggested that I call my branch.

Yeah. Um. Okay then. I left a message anyway, asking them to get back to me. It was an Ottawa area code, so I’m guessing they’re already gone for the day. I’ll call again tomorrow morning.

The Royal Bank been perfectly pleasant all the way along, just totally useless. Even gave me wrong information at one point, telling me my account was unfrozen. It ain’t. That’s nice.

So, since my chequing account is frozen, I’ve been living on credit cards and my savings account (at $1 per transaction… ouch much?) and luckily, my landlord accepts rent in sexual favours (well, or “um, mind if I pay you in September honey?” The sexual favours just cover the interest), thinking that there’s no way this could go on for too long, right? Apparently I was wrong…

I would really, really like to hear back from them. I just want this to get sorted out. It seems so … simple. Oh, the gov’t gave me a bunch of money. Then they realized their error and tried to take it back. The money wasn’t in that account at the time. Now it is. Great. Take it. Why haven’t they taken it? TAKE THE DAMN MONEY ALREADY.

To be honest, I have no idea if this is a problem with my bank or with Revenue Canada. Quite frankly, I haven’t heard a peep from the gov’t saying what’s going on, I managed to glean all of this through my elite detective skills and deductive reasoning. Maybe this is more complicated than I think? Maybe it would be nice if someone would TELL ME WHAT THE GREAT GEEZLING FUCK IS GOING ON?

In the meantime, I applied for an account with VanCity.

I had numerous problems with Royal Bank and it took them forever to cancel my account. I had to get a Royal Bank account for my student loan. I’ve since cancelled my account and intend to never use them again. They screwed up a bunch of things for me and it was seriously ridiculous.

I recently changed my ‘bank’ from the North Shore Credit Union to VanCity and I lurves them. Check out their green initiatives on the website. That alone got them my business.

I doubt it’s possible, but do you know anyone that can get you into USAA:
    https://www.usaa.com/inet/ent_utils/McStaticPages?key=become_member_main&wa_ref=pub_global_become_a_member

I bring it up because it’s a *stellar* bank. Other than that, I have no helpful advice. :-(
