Things I learned today:
Oh, a whole bunch of stuff, but it’s stupid late and I need to be up in … less than six hours, which is not good.
However, the best thing? I swear, this is fate: I fit in the ambulance.
Let me say that again: I fit in the ambulance.
Here’s the thing: I’m short. 5’3″ and change. The change is important when you’re short. I’m not just 5’3″ — I’m OVER 5’3″. Just not quite 5’4″. So there. I’m not really a FAN of being short, and it usually annoys me. I dislike trying to reach for things on the top shelf, or constantly calculating an extra $10-15 into a pair of pants to get them hemmed. (Note: I recognize that being tall has a worse problem for the hemming thing, as it’s easier to make pants shorter than longer, but still. Is annoying, and this is about being short.)
So, we got a quick ambulance demo today in the training ambulance that the JIBC owns. We all piled into the back so our instructor could go over where things are, and how stuff works. I don’t think I’ve ever actually BEEN in an ambulance before. Anytime one has been needed while I was around, it wasn’t for me, and I went in a separate car.
I fit.
Let’s put this into perspective: I could STAND UP in the ambulance and walk around without bending over. Nobody else in my class could.
I am SO MEANT to be a paramedic. I swear, I’m going to put that on my application. “Will not get back ache from bending over in the ambulance all the time.” Judging from my classmates, it’s a bit obnoxious. But not for me… because I FIT!
I’ve never been so happy to be short.
