I am the queen of procrastinating.
Last July, I walked 5k for cancer. We all know this.
Shortly afterwards, I decided I wanted to do the 10k run (I didn’t actually sign up for it until later, but I had the idea in my head pretty early.) I wasn’t 100% committed, but I liked the idea enough to email a friend who once ran a half marathon to ask “How?” I got some great advice, and made some plans to start.
Plan #1: Dog. Ok, I didn’t get her just so I have a running partner, but she’s convenient for that. Catch (aka, reason #1 for procrastinating): She didn’t come running-enabled. In fact, it’s only been within the last month (since we started the remote collar training, in fact!) that she had any idea how to run with me without jumping on me and generally being an idiot. Now, she’s a dream, and hell she heels better at a run than at a walk.
Plan #2: Wait til I get back from Africa. aka, reason #2 for Procrastinating. No point in starting running now if I’m only going to be running off to a foreign continent to play with elephants, right? Well, I’m back now, and have been for a while.
Plan #3: Buy new shoes. Based on the original advice I got, I realized that none of my shoes were even remotely suitable for running. The closest things I had to running shoes were a pair of 2 year old crosstrainers from Payless that I ended up leaving in Africa anyway. Insert reason #3 for procrastinating. I bought the shoes last week.
Plan #4: Take a course at the Running Room, aka, reason #4 for procrastinating. I’m still stuck on this one, and you know what? Fuck it. I’ve been jogging a wee bit with the dog (for like, 30 seconds at a time) to work with her running abilities, and haven’t yet sprained my ankle (like I used to do any time I moved faster than a drunk snail) and there are plenty of online programs that go over how to start training. So, I’m going to do that. And I’m starting tonight, damnit.
Plan #5: No more excuses. I’ve procrastinated long enough. We’re going running!
I really enjoy the podcasts. I found that they made me much more likely to run. Too bad I gave up after week 4. *sigh*
Ha ha Nice :) Let me know how that goes and I’ll stop procrastinating running too. Gotta be able to run that 10k!
I did the first workout tonight!
