Hi, I’m here to shock you.

Well, even if I fail everything else, I’ve managed to do one thing right: I got my CPR-C certification today, with a perfect score on the test. (Good thing, too — you can only get 3 wrong…) We learned how to use automated external defibrillator’s as well, which is pretty awesome. Much fun was had [...]

It’s good to practice.

I just gave CPR to my pillow. I was unsuccessful. Pillow continues to have no pulse and no respiration. Very sad.

Day Two

Awesomeness. Observations of Day 2: – Perfect score on the first test. Phew. Was WAY more worried about it than I should have been. – Best Acronym Ever: HEMP BC. Is part of the initial scene assessment. Apparently nobody EVER forgets that one. Ah, Vancouver, you make me proud. For the record (because the more [...]

Observations

- People are heavy – I need to be stronger. Working on this. – I have blisters on my hands from lifting a variety of stretchers and cots, both loaded & unloaded. – cots are harder to work than they look. stupid cots. – I didn’t drop anybody! I came close at one point, and [...]

That didn’t go as expected.

Plan: Go to sleep early, be rested and refreshed ready to get up and go learn how to save lives. Woo! Reality: Couldn’t sleep. Hmm. Got to sleep somewhere around midnight, so not TOO much later than I was aiming for, but since I had to be up at 6 (gah, even EARLIER than I [...]

Zimbabwe Travelogue Index Sept 28th – Boundary Clearing, Puppies, & Lightning COMPLETE! I think there’s a bit more to do at the other end, but for the most part, the boundary is done. Thank freaking lord. We were supposed to be doing this all day, so instead the Big 5 group is going to do [...]

Breaking News

I’m actually well prepared for my course tomorrow. Huh. I’ve got some stuff to review tonight, but … it’s review. I’ve read everything I’ve managed to get my hands on so far, I’ve gone through all four CD’s of videos, quizzes, etc… hell, at this point, I think I’d even feel comfortable inserting an oropharyngeal [...]

September 27th: Early mornings, water, and flat tires.

Zimbabwe Travelogue Index Sept 27th – Early mornings, water, and flat tires. For the last two days, we haven’t had to get up til breakfast (at 8)… and yet, I’ve been up before 7 both days. Damnit! I hate waking up when I don’t have to. On Wednesday night, the water stopped. The power went [...]

Did I mention that I’m scared to death?

marmot says: don’t worry, it’s not like anyone will die if you don’t learn everything marmot says: oh wait… THANK YOU SO MUCH, MARMOT.

Things I’ve learned today

- Reading textbooks takes a long time, but is well worth it. Now onto the second round of prep work. Note to anyone who wants to see me in the next three weeks: Sorry. – In a multiple casualty incident, you often use Triage tags to designate who needs to be cared for first. These [...]
