I am amused by my textbook. Not only did it give me the excellent slogan “Quadriplegia is forever” (regarding the importance of spinal management)… but it also gave us such gems as “They’re not dead until they’re warm and dead” (because evidently hypothermia is NOT forever.) It’s the little things that make me laugh and [...]

Which came first?
In this case, it was the egg. I made the chicken a few minutes later. This morning, I took a study break and popped by the Cloverdale Honeybee Centre and made a bunch of beeswax candles. So freaking cool. Because you know, I needed another hobby. And now… back to studying. Whee!
Don’t worry — I know how to treat shock now.
I’m printing out the study guide for the EMA Licensing board. It’s 46 pages. Ack. My pulse appears to be rapid and weak, my skin is pale, cool & clammy, and my mental status is going sideways… Well. Time to elevate the feet and stay warm. And study. (Note: I’m kidding. No, you don’t get [...]
Things that make me angry
You know, I don’t have any problem with people making decisions on how they want to raise their kids, and that includes their choices on vaccinations. Hell, I don’t vaccinate my dog, beyond the necessary — and even then, I get titre testing instead of booster shots to make sure she’s protected, rather than throwing [...]
Must be fate
Things I learned today: Oh, a whole bunch of stuff, but it’s stupid late and I need to be up in … less than six hours, which is not good. However, the best thing? I swear, this is fate: I fit in the ambulance. Let me say that again: I fit in the ambulance. Here’s [...]
Verbally Incontinent
Inspiration from Erin… My current online archives start… Nov 29th 2002, which is 2009 days from today. The blog actually started in ’98 sometime, but the first 4 years are offline. 3664 posts in that time (although that includes 3 drafts that I started at some point and haven’t finished… and doesn’t include this one. [...]
Fashion Hazard
“Blue and green should never be seen except inside the washing machine.” Well, so much for fashion. Whatever, it’s functional and I think it looks nice, faux pas or not.
Explosive!
Today, we learned about nitroglycerin. Sadly, not cool ways to make stuff go boom… sort of the opposite, really. This cures the achy breaky heart. Or at least the achy one. Best part? I get to ask anyone with chest pain if they’ve taken viagra, levitra or cialis recently (all three are contraindications for nitro.) [...]
A little religious thought.
I like the idea of churches. This may come as a bit of a surprise to some, as I tend to refer to myself as an athiest-leaning agnostic — translation, I don’t believe it’s possible to know “the truth”, but I’m inclined to think … probably not. I’m a little uncomfortable with God-type things, or [...]
A good excuse to wear my underwear on the outside
So in the training video we watched (mostly to help us get our timing down for CPR), the ever so charismatic narrarator refers to healthcare providers as “hero’s”. Since the particular CPR course we were going through was CPR for Health Care Providers, it was aimed at paramedics, nurses, doctors, etc. So I have to [...]
