It may be obvious by now, but I’m a little bit of an adreneline junkie.
This morning, Bethany (one of the other volunteers who’s in Vic Falls with me, along with Tara) & I decided to do some insane things…. like fling ourselves over the gorge. We did the flying fox (harness behind you, attached to a line above you, and you do something of a superman over the gorge), a zipline (similar to the flying fox, except you’re in more of a sitting position, and it goes WAY faster), and then a gorge swing (tied in the same as the zip line, except… you just jump off a platform.)
I LOVED it. Even better (well, for me) is that Bethany got up to the platform to do the gorge swing and realized she couldn’t do it — she just couldn’t step off. So… I got a second run. So, so awesome — I think freefall may be my favorite feeling in the world.
Yesterday, we had a Lion Walk and an Elephant Ride, and it was just as awesome.
I’ve now been in Zambia too, if only just barely.
I am absolutely in love with this country. I’m already trying to figure out how I’m going to afford to come back.
I even have a bit of a tan. Go figure.
Last night, we went to the Boma – a place of eating. It’s a bit more than that… for $35 US, you get a buffet of a wide variety of food. I’ve now eaten crocodile, kudu, impala, ostritch, and mopani worms. Well worth it — the entertainment was also fantastic, and we got our fortunes read. Bethany’s was pretty accurate, Tara’s … well, we’ll need to wait a few years to find out. Mine… hmph. No, I will not be having 2 or 4 children. And if the only way I’m ever going to be successful money-wise is via a husband, then… wait, think this mythical husband will finance my trips to Zimbabwe? Maybe there’s something to this fortune after all.
Anyway. I’ve been journalling a lot, but the internet is way, way too slow here to even think about posting even half of it, nevermind any of the 5gb of pictures I’ve taken so far. You’ll just have to wait for me to get home. Or at least to Hong Kong’s airport.
We head back to Miombo tomorrow, so I’m back to having no contact with the outside world, save for the occasional scratchy phonecall. I can’t call cell phones for whatever reason, but if you want to give me a call… 263-018446 or 263-018395, I think. And remember that I’m… what, 9 or 10 hours ahead? Something like that. Or, just send me emails so I have something to read in Joburg next week!
Miss everyone, but at the same time… I’m so not looking forward to leaving in only 8 days. I am looking forward to turning 28 in 7 days, though. I’ve been so busy… I just about forgot about my birthday. Go figure.
Wow it sounds like you’re having a blast! You’re not missing anything here in Vancouver. Keep having a great time and I look forward to reading/hearing about your adventures when you come back.
Hey, sounds like an incredible adventure! I can’t wait to hear all about it when you get back! Stay safe… And have an INCREDIBLE BIRTHDAY!!
Hugs!
