Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh OH!

This year, Bard on the Beach has Taming of the Shrew, my all time favorite Shakespeare play. I’ve seen them do it before a few years ago, and it was awesome. I must see this!

Who’s with me?

(Note: Probably not til July. All my moula is going towards Africa til then. Alas.)

Markus and I already have our tickets to one of the fireworks nights (includes a lovely salmon bbq.) We’re looking forward to it! :-)

I have been going every year for 10 years. My mother, sister and I attend together and that’ll be it for me moula-wise. I can’t afford to go twice.

I also love the Taming of the Shrew, but this year’s production will be done in a Wild West theme. I’m not so keen about that.

Torn because I have seen Julius too many times, I would never want to see Timons again and I’ll puke if I’m stuck watching R&J (I used to have to teach this one)….soooooooooo. *shrugs* I dunno what to do this year. Drink?

wild west? err… what the fuck?

  4. Justin says:

Yeah, not so keen on the WWW theme. My girlfriend teaches Shakespeare, and isn’t impressed with any of the plays this year, really. More modern takes, which will either be great, or suck.

I wasn’t too impressed by the Wild West theme idea either, but I love Taming of the Shrew and I was thinking of going. I’d be lookin’ at sometime in mid-July so it can be one of my last outings pre-baby.

    So, yes… let’s tawk.

A lot of people are doing this interpretive crap lately it seems – this last season, Van Opera did The Magic Flute with a First Nations perspective. Everyone I spoke to said it was interesting, but that much was lost. I’ll go see the Shrew simply because it’s my favourite of his works, although I’m expecting the same sort of “meh” outcome. Gawd I hope I’m wrong.

  7. donna says:

Yeah, I don’t care WHAT interpretation someone has — I’m still going to watch it, because I love this damn play. Hell, I even enjoyed “Ten Things I Hate About You” …

I want to see A Winter’s Night again – I saw it at the Shakespeare festival in Ashland, it was fantastic, but I don’t know if they’re doing it at BotB?

  9. Donna says:

I’m assuming you mean The Winter’s Tale?

Bard runs 4 different plays each season. Shakespeare wrote over 30 plays. Chances are… not this year. :)

This years plays are Taming of the Shrew, Romeo & Juliet, Julius Caeser, and Timon of Athens. They did The Winter’s Tale in ’97 and ’06.

Ten Things I Hate About You was only palatable because of it being based on Taming of the Shrew. I hate that actress (can’t remember the name – have blocked it out) an irrational amount. Unfortunately, the script was half-decent.
