Sometimes, when Jenn isn’t home, or early in the morning before Jenn wakes up, Zev & I have little discussions. They go like this:
Cat: I’m starving.
Me: You weigh 22lbs. You could be unfed for two weeks, and STILL not starve. Plus, there’s still food in your dish.
Cat: But once I finish eating it, it’s gone.
Me: Right. Talk to me then.
Cat: You should refill it now. Just in case. What if you’re not here? What if you die?
Me: I won’t die.
Cat: You might. For example, if you don’t fill my dish RIGHT NOW, I might kill you.

hee!
I have had that conversation many, many times with poor, starving Zev.
I have similar conversations with my cats. Only in the morning, afternoon and just before bed. Sometimes in the middle of the night.
My conversations with my previous cat involved apologizing for the disorganization of the food that made the bottom of the bowl visible. I would then go rearrange the food so that it was spread across the bottom and hid the ceramic underneath. Then the cat would be happy (until she ate through to the bottom again).
Heyyyy! I have that conversation with Gris all the time too. AND the same situation with Puff that Gillian has with her cat.
